Planned obsolescence!
Is anyone else really disinterested in mechanical, industrial, and consumer electronics design that’s clearly created to be consumed? Macbook Air… cannot update it, completely non-configurable, it is what it is out of the box and you’re going to like it. How long until the next OS X release surpasses the Air’s 2GB ram?
Cars exemplify the worst in this trend. A car more then 10-15 years old on the road is becoming more uncommon. Most components have a service life of 10-15 years, and then fail. OEM replacement parts are so price gorged that economical repair is unreasonable. (I paid $15 bucks for a M10 x 1.25 bolt at a Toyota dealer on Saturday) Also, most OEM parts are discontinued at some point during those 10-15 years.
